Here is information about Sheet 266:
This One Inch to the Mile map is taken from the early Coloured Edition. It covers the area around Avebury, with coverage stretching from Bowood House and Calne eastward to Marlborough, and from Wroughton southward to Alton Priors. A major feature of the map is the number of archaeological sites, including Avebury itself, Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill and others; but more modern historians will also find the railways to Marlborough and Calne. On the reverse we include a detailed map of the village of Avebury, including most of the Stone Circle, St James church, Avebury Trusloe.
It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you may find it useful if we list the towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map. Links are given for those for which detailed large-scale maps are also available.
