Ten new maps for Preston to be published in 2026
We are preparing ten new maps for Preston. Publication will commence in July 2026 and the ten will all be published by the end of the year.
Preston, a city since 2002, has a rich history and grew massively during the 19th century, the population growing from 11,887 in 1901 to 112,989 by 1901, largely because of its cotton spinning and weaving industry but also as a major railway junction and as a port. It saw some major municipal buildings in the centre but also some notorious slums, and also became a notable centre for Catholicism. Our maps will also include a canal, tramways, a prison, and an important early football ground.
The ten maps will see a major expansion of our coverage of this important city and will include four Large Scale Plans for the OS 5-foot plans from the 1840s and six 25-inch maps from c.1930. Each map will include a specially written introduction, by Alan Crosby and Alan Godfrey.
The first maps are due to be published in July and we intend to publish all ten by the end of the year, normally two at a time.
The first maps in this subscription are due in July 2026. Although no firm timetable can be given, we intend to publish all ten maps by the end of 2026. This special offer is for UK customers only. We hope you will join us in subscribing to our new Preston maps and supporting this continuing project. Quite simply, the more maps we sell, and the more subscribers we have, the more we can publish!
