Here is information about Sheet 8:
This early One Inch Ordnance Survey map covers a rural part of central Northumberland, centred on Redesdale. This is an area of hills and moorland that, as author John Griffiths tells us, has been militarised for two thousand years, right up to the mock assaults on the Otterburn ranges of today. On the reverse we include a detailed map of the village of Elsdon, with a directory.
It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps. However, you may find it useful if we list the towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map. Links are given for those for which detailed large-scale maps are also available.
