Here are the details of maps for south Purfleet:
This detailed map covers the southern part of Purfleet, an area of riverside wharves with Thames Paper Mills, Caspian Wharf, Purfleet Wharf & Saw Mills, and oil refineries. The railway, piers and many sidings are also shown. On the other side of the Thames the map captures an interesting section of the Dartford Marshes, including the major smallpox hospital at Long Reach and its tramways down to Orchard Hospital and (just off the map) Joyce Green Hospital.
The introduction by Alan Godfrey describes the industrial history of the Purfleet riverside and also explains how the Kent shore became a major centre for smallpox hospitals, with a tramway and hospital ships.
The map links up with sheets 94.04 Purfleet to the north.
Maps in the Godfrey Edition are taken from the 25 inch to the mile map and reduced to about 15 inches to the mile. For a full list of maps for England, return to the England page.
