Edinburgh Subscription

Ten new maps for Edinburgh & Midlothian to be published in 2025

  • We plan to issue ten new maps for Edinburgh & its Environs - the area formerly known as Edinburghshire - during 2025. These will all be taken from the Ordnance Survey's early 5 foot (or 1:1056) plans, generally using the 1870s edition. These will be reduced to 1:1760 or a Yard to the Mile. Each will have a 1:500 map from the 1890s on the reverse, together with a 2,000 word introduction. This follows the success of similar maps being published for London and builds on the five large scale plans already available for Edinburgh in our series.
  • The first titles are expected to be published in April 2025 and the rest, normally two maps at a time, within the year. Although the exact programme has not yet been decided, the group will include maps for both Edinburgh and Leith. The lead author will be Alan Godfrey. The group will help us strengthen our coverage of a city and area that was at the forefront of the Godfrey Edition when we began in the early 1980s and follows ten maps published for the area during 2024.
  • Subscriptions give an excellent discount, and also support us in our mission to cover as many towns and villages as possible. Each map will include a specially written 2,000 word introduction. Maps are normally sent to subscribers, postage free, a few days before publication. A subscription costs just £ 30.00 for the ten new maps, a substantial saving on the normal price, with an Earlybird Offer of £ 25.00 until Friday 28 February.

    The first map in this subscription is due in late April 2025. Although no firm timetable can be given, we intend to publish all ten maps within a year and hopefully by the end of 2025.
